About AISC Certification Program
AISC Certification Programs set the quality standard for the structural steel
industry and are the most recognized national quality certification programs.
Being AISC certified informs owners, the design community, construction industry,
and public officials that certified participants have the personnel, organization,
experience, procedures, knowledge, equipment, and commitment for quality
control and quality assurance. As a contractor, your company will learn the skills
and have the tools necessary to increase quality resulting in fewer errors to save
you money and increase production.
The most common question that applicants typically have is “Do I need to hire new
personnel or have an in-house AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)?” The answer
is "No", although AISC encourages contractors to staff a CWI, it is not a requirement
unlike other programs. Typically, new position titles and responsibilities are created
within the company and these can be performed by one or more than one staff
member. In smaller organizations it's common for one individual to have multiple
roles or perform multiple functions. Two key positions are the Quality Control
Inspector and Quality Assurance Manager. The Quality Control Inspector performs
all visual inspections and records all inspection records. The Quality Assurance
Manager will maintenance all document control records.
